Meat without meat and meat in test tubes
It already looks like a fever. Two powerful brands Beyond Meat and Impossible Meat have become very popular. We are talking about the production of cutlets for burgers, sausages and other products made exclusively from vegetable substances.
And if before it might have seemed that such products are interesting only for vegetarians, now their consumption has become something more: it is a kind of social manifesto. Young people are concerned about the ethical principles and environmental consequences of modern animal husbandry and are looking for alternatives. Such solutions include innovative meat without soy, but from other plants. In addition, the technology of “growing” meat from cells in test tubes is already well developed. They are not mass yet, but they seem very promising. Memphis Meats, Aleph Farms, Higher Steaks, Just, Mosa Meat, Biotch Foods and Meatable are working very hard on this and reduce the cost of such meat every year.
It is about finding alternatives not only for steaks, but also for all products of animal origin: from milk and cheese to eggs.
Large companies cannot stand aside. So Burger King blew up the Impossible Whopper burger market, Denny’s signed a contract with Beyond Meat, and KFC began testing a burger with “vegetarian chicken” and “vegetarian nuggets.”
Interesting fact: Whole Foods experts point out that soy meat substitutes will be less popular, while brands will use grains, beans, hemp, pumpkin, avocados, watermelon seeds and various algae to create meat substitutes and other animal products. Some of these products can also mimic the texture of yogurt and other dairy products.
